Fowey Parish Records
1568-1929
|
The Fowey Parish Records were contributed to this site by Rik who lives in Cornwall. He transcribed these records from 'a transcription of a transcription of apparently pretty awful originals. These records were taken from a typed transcript lent to me by my local Library. The local history society had asked them to tidy up/organise these pages dating from the 1960s up until around 2002... This was some 7 years ago but as I recall these records come from the Parish Records and I had papers from the estate of a local lady historian donated, following her demise, to the history society. This was their only holding of the records but is supposed/assumed/presumed to a complete record of the surviving documents. The lady concerned is purported to have "seen everything" and recorded it all-so not a focused effort. Hope this helps i.e it should be a total snapshot of the Fowey Parish Records up to the earlier years of the 20th Century but that later records (like censuses) are extracted if not already in the public domain... Certainly they were locally sourced and supposedly are the work of an unnamed benefactress to the local history society. All I can say is that the papers I was given to transcribe were done on at least 2 different typewriters, on 4 or 5 different paper stocks and had been reasonably stored but by no means 'conserved'." Looking at the Family History Library Films,
these records seem to come from the original records of the
